Overview:
The Gems Internship presents an exclusive chance to contribute towards the development and management of transportation infrastructure in Gauteng. Working under experienced practitioners, interns will acquire useful insights and skills base for their future careers.
Responsibilities:
- Support planning, designing, or implementing road or transport projects.
- Conduct studies and collect information on transportation systems or infrastructure.
- Assist with project management tasks such as scheduling resources.
- Make visits to work sites and inspection sites to ensure adherence to safety regulations, equipment safety standards, etc.
- Develop reports with team members; make presentations based on recommendations from reports that have been developed by team members together with other activities that encourage teamwork among the workers involved.
- Engage the stakeholders including the community in order to obtain information about concerns raised during previous consultations/ site visits.
- Participate in the preparation of technical documentation including presentation materials.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a bachelor’s degree program in Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, Urban Planning or related field.
- Good analytical as well as problem-solving skills.
- Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Must be able communicate effectively at all levels.
- Not only should he/she work alone but also alongside colleagues.
- Requires high organizational skills coupled with attention to detail.
Requirements:
An ideal candidate should have excellent academic background in engineering or planning-related discipline with a strong interest in transportation and infrastructure. Prior experience is not essential but would be advantageous. Candidates must be proactive learners who are committed to contributing positively towards achievement of departmental objectives. Certain positions may require a valid driving license.
